Longevity

Longevity refers to the length of an individual’s life or lifespan, often measured in terms of average life expectancy within a population. In gerontology, it also encompasses the study of factors that contribute to a longer, healthier life, including genetics, lifestyle choices, healthcare access, and social and environmental influences.

Research on longevity seeks not only to extend lifespan but also to enhance the quality of life during aging, emphasizing healthspan— the period of life spent in good health, free from chronic illness or disability.
